GROWING UP IMMIGRANT

ONE Season | SIX EPISODES

After his parents move back to Ghana, Nicholas Ajayi, a first-generation Ghanaian-American millennial must adjust to living with his spinster aunt while working at an ethnic-focused digital media PR agency, and navigating the cultural complexities of interracial dating.

GROWING UP IMMIGRANT HIGHLIGHTS

A brief compilation of scoring highlights from this comedy webseries. As per the director's request, I incorporated acoustic world instruments as well as afrobeat-inspired elements throughout the soundtrack.

SEDUCTIVE ALIGNMENT

Nicholas imagines the perfect sexual encounter - I created a repetitive rhythm featuring metallic synth melody and dreamy synthesized female choir. After Nicholas stops narrating, the beat takes over, simple yet strong and percussive to demonstrate their energy without distracting from the striking cinematography.

TO GOOD ENERGY

Aunty Mama's potential new beau puts on some music for an impromptu dance - I improvised a relaxing piano solo over steady acoustic bass and light cymbals, adding appropriate reverb for the space. Using the beat of the acoustic bass to transition into workout/exercise music, I featured syllabic choir samples over synthesized EDM bass, eventually applying a band pass filter (mid-pass) for spatial awareness at the gym.
